Fishing in the Pearl Islands
The Pearl Islands are widely regarded as one of the best places for deep sea fishing in the world with over 200 game fish records being set there.
It is possible to hire fishing boats which sail directly from Punta Galeon beach in front of the hotel and catch fish by trolling or spear fishing
Typical fish caught in the Pearl Islands include Jack, Sierra, Grouper, Snapper, Amberjack, Rockfish, Dorado, Sailfish, Sharks, different types of Tuna and different types of Marlin Fishing (Blue, Striped and Black Marlin).

Trolling is a technique in which a fishing lure on a line is drawn through the water. Trolling from a moving boat is a technique of big-game fishing and is used when fishing from boats to catch large open-water species such as tuna and marlin.

Spearfishing makes use of elastic powered spearguns and slings, or compressed gas pneumatic powered spearguns, to strike the hunted fish
The Pearl Islands offer year round fishing opportunities with different types of fishing during the following seasons:
From May to December is known as Winter (or the wet season) and it is likely to catch Barracudas, Amberjacks, Roosterfish and Sierras with an off chance of snagging larger groupers, sappers, jacks, pompanos and corvine.
The Summer (or dry season) runs from January to May. During this time a strong, southern Pacific cold saltwater current know as the “Humboldt” starts to move up north from South America and a constant strong north wind blows the surface of the Panamanian Gulf creating a vertical current from down under.

This causes bottom fish to migrate from the continental slope into the Gulf of Panama and during this period the opportunities to catch deep sea big game fish, shelf demersal or slope gamefish are excellent.
